Jack Lowden (The Tunnel) and Paddy Gibson (What Richard Did) will lead the cast of BBC One’s new World War One drama The Passing Bells.
Marking the centenary of World War One, the five-part drama will be filmed in Poland and is written by Tony Jordan (EastEnders, Hustle, Life on Mars).
A Polish co-production, The Passing Bells sees the conflict of the First World War unfold through the eyes of two very ordinary young men – Michael (Jack Lowden) and Thomas (Paddy Gibson) – both of whom have enlisted in a war they expect will be over within months.
The cast also includes young British and German actors as their supporting battalions, including Charles Furness, Brian Fletcher, Wilf Scolding, Hubert Burton, Felix Auer, Ben McGregor, Mark Burghagen and Matthew Aubrey.
Eryka Karkuszewska and Sabrina Bartlett will play the young men’s love interests.
