A third season of CBBC’s award-winning sitcom So Awkward has been commissioned before the second season has even aired.
Created by Julie Bower, So Awkward launched in May 2015 and tells the story of three socially awkward friends; Lily, Martha and Jas.
Alan Marke, Managing Director of Channel X, commented: “So Awkward came about when an opportunity arose to develop one of our adult comedy scripts into a children’s project. We’re thrilled that the series has been such a hit for CBBC with a third series having just been ordered! We wanted to create a smart comedy with quality writing and acting that doesn’t talk down to its audience and we’re really proud of what we’ve achieved.”
Jim Reid, Director of Programmes at Channel X, added: “Having spent the last 30 years specialising in comedy formats for adults it’s great that we can use our expertise to develop an award winning children’s sitcom. Because children’s shows are ordered in blocks of 13 it means there is a lot more work to get your teeth into. The dynamic on So Awkward is much more like a US team writing show, which is different for us and exciting.”
Season 2 begins on CBBC this summer and Season 3 is expected to air in 2017.
