The CW is rebooting Charmed with a new cast, and you can get your first glimpse at the new show right here. Madeleine Mantock, Melonie Diaz and Sarah Jeffery star as sisters Macy, Mel and Maggie, who will explore their magic abilities throughout the show’s first rebooted season.
The CW’s Charmed reboot has been described as a “feminist” take on the material. And the plot of the new series is described thusly in the press materials:
“After the tragic death of their mother, three sisters in a college town are stunned to discover they are witches. Soon this powerful threesome must stand together to fight the everyday and supernatural battles that all modern witches must face: from vanquishing powerful demons to toppling the patriarchy.”
The trailer itself, which runs for almost four minutes, is here…
The original Charmed ran on The WB (the network that became The CW) from 1998 until 2006, reaching an impressive count of 178 episodes. There are no writers or cast members from the old show returning for the new version.
Jennie Snyder Urman, who has previously written and produced for Jane The Virgin and 90210, has led the charge to get this Charmed remake off the ground. The original show’s creator, Constance M. Burge, is expected to get a ‘based on’ credit.
Charmed will debut on The CW in the autumn, and we’ll keep you posted as more details come to light.
