Danai Gurira, of The Walking Dead and Black Panther fame, has been linked to two huge Hollywood film franchises: according to reports, the actor/theatre writer could be nabbing roles in both Star Trek 4 and Godzilla Vs Kong.
Deadline reports that Gurira is in “early talks to star” in Godzilla Vs Kong, a monstrous crossover movie that has Adam Wingard (director of the brilliant The Guest, the recent Blair Witch and Netflix’s Death Wish) at its helm. Its cast already includes Stranger Things‘ Millie Bobby Brown and Deadpool 2‘s Julian Dennison.
In that same Deadline article, it’s reported that Gurira is “circling” a role in Star Trek 4, which has S.J. Clarkson (Jessica Jones, The Defenders, Life On Mars, Collateral) lined up to direct. Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg and John Cho are expected to reprise their roles.
We have no details to go on with either of these roles, regarding what kind of characters they are. Both films will have goodies and baddies, we assume, and we’re sure that Gurira could handle either end of the good/evil spectrum.
It’s also unclear what this news means, if anything, for Gurira’s recurring roles in The Walking Dead and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Does the fact that Gurira is looking for other work mean she is nearly done with Michonne or Okoye? It’s impossible to tell, of course, but we’ll keep you posted as we hear more.
