ITV has announced that crime drama DCI Banks will not be returning for a sixth season.

Starring Stephen Tompkinson (Wild At Heart), Andrea Lowe (Monroe) and Caroline Catz (Doc Martin), the the detective series launched in September 2010 and a fifth season concluded on ITV last month.

A statement from ITV reads: “After five series, ITV has taken the decision not to recommission DCI Banks.”

They added: “We’re grateful to the production team at Left Bank Pictures for creating the world of DCI Banks and the actors Stephen Tompkinson, Andrea Lowe and Caroline Catz for the commitment and dedication they’ve shown to their roles.”
