The executive producers of Doctor Who have given their expert advice on effective writing.
Aside from his work on Doctor Who, 53-year-old Scottish writer Steven Moffat is best known as the co-creator of BBC One’s hit Sherlock. His other popular credits include Coupling, Chalk and Jekyll, as well as co-writing Steven Spielberg’s The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn in 2011.
Welsh producer Brian Minchin has worked on Doctor Who since 2013, following his time on Wizards vs. Aliens, The Sarah Jane Adventures and Torchwood.
Speaking to the show’s official website in a new video, Moffat advised: “Writing is about writing. You have to write all the time, you have to write for people, you have to write to entertain people… The art of writing is to write sentences that make people want to read the next sentence.”
Minchin added: “You have to learn as much as you can from people around you. It’s not magic!”
