A press release from the BBC has heralded the start of filming on the third series of Our Girl, and it may just contain a spoiler for the new series.
While it tells us that Michelle Keegan will, of course, be returning as Corporal Georgie Lane, along with Luke Pasqualino as Elvis Harte in the new series, there is no mention of Royce Pierreson – who played Georgie’s jilted fiancé, Jamie Cole. Does this mean it’s really the end of the road for the two? It would certainly seem so, unless his return is being held back for a later reveal.
We say that, because what’s also changing is the show’s format. We’re told series three will be arranged into three distinct missions for Georgie, spanning 12 episodes. While it’s not currently clear if that breaks down to three four-part blocks, it’s more than twice the length of any previous series however they cut it.
The first of these missions will air later in the year and be based in Nepal, with Two Section helping to tackle the aftermath of an earthquake. There are currently no details on any of the later instalments, though writer Tony Grounds has declared his wish to focus season three of the show on how British forces intervene in disaster relief efforts across the globe.
The new series will also feature the return of Fleabag’s Ben Aldridge as Cpt. James, appearing alongside former soap stars Rolan Bell (Eastenders’) and Sean Ward (Coronation Street), Top Boy’s Sean Sagar, and new recruit Shalom Brune-Franklin as Private Maisie Richards.
Do you think this could really be the last we see of Jamie in Our Girl? Let us know in the comments.
