Well, here’s a commercial partnership we weren’t expecting: Game Of Thrones has teamed up with Bud Light for a Super Bowl advert, with the beer brand remaking an iconic scene from HBO’s fantasy mega-hit with an added slice of sponsorship. You can watch the barmy clip right here, if you like…
The clip starts innocently enough, with ‘the Bud Knight’ giving out some tasty brews to a happy crowd.
But it soon goes very dark, with the blue beer-bringer going up against the Mountain, in a scene that’s very reminiscent of the jousting battle from Game Of Thrones season 1 episode 5. There is, of course, a lot less brand placement in the original version of the scene. And, just in case you didn’t realise what show was being sort-of parodied here, the advert chucks in a dragon at the end.
Here’s the clip, then, if you fancy watching something weird…
Game Of Thrones, of course, will return later this year for its final ever season. Across six episodes, the battle for the Seven Kingdoms will come to its sure-to-be-epic conclusion. There will, presumably, not be a light beer in sight.
The final season of Game Of Thrones will kick off on April 14th on HBO. We assume Sky Atlantic will continue doing their simulcasts for UK viewers.
We’ll bring you more news (however odd) as and when we see it.
