George R.R. Martin fans have been waiting for The Winds Of Winter for years, with the penultimate book in the A Song Of Ice And Fire series being delayed numerous times. Now, the author has chatted about his stuggles with the book.
It’s been seven years since A Dance With Dragons debuted on shop shelves, and in those years we’ve seen the Game Of Thrones TV show overtake Martin’s novels and forge ahead towards it own conclusion (which will air on HBO and Sky Atlantic next year).
Martin, meanwhile, continues to work on The Winds Of The Winter. And now, he’s opened up to The Guardian, giving this statement on the topic of his progress with the book:
“I’ve been struggling with it for a few years. The Winds of Winter is not so much a novel as a dozen novels, each with a different protagonist, each having a different cast of supporting players and antagonists and allies and lovers around them, and all of these weaving together in an extremely complex fashion. So it’s very, very challenging. Fire and Blood by contrast was very simple. Not that it’s easy, it still took me years to put together, but it is easier.”
Indeed, while fans wait for The Winds Of Winter, Martin has something else to tide them over: Fire & Blood, which details Targaryen history that took place centuries before Game Of Thrones, is being released on November 20th 2018.
The Winds Of Winter, currently, does not have a set release date. We’ll keep you updated as we hear more.
