ITV has commissioned a second season of Grantchester.
Set in the Cambridgeshire hamlet of Grantchester in the early 1950s, Grantchester launched last month on ITV, averaging a consolidated audience of 6.6 million viewers and a 24% share of the audience.
Season 2 will begin filming in London and Grantchester next year, starring James Norton and Robson Green.
Executive producer Diederick Santer commented: “I’m delighted with how the audience have taken to Grantchester, and I’m very happy that ITV have asked us to make a second series. The show is a joy to make, so we can’t wait to get back to working on it.”
ITV’s Director of Drama Steve November added: “We received a tremendous audience reaction to Grantchester. It was so well received so it was an easy decision to commission a new series. We’re looking forward to working with Diederick Santer and reading Daisy Coulam’s beautifully written scripts.”
Season 1 will premiere in the US in January on Masterpiece on PBS.
