Filming has started on the second season of BBC Two’s Inside No. 9.
Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith’s anthology of darkly comic tales launched last February and six new episodes will air later this year.
Guest stars in Season 2 will include Alice Lowe (Sightseers); Alison Steadman (Gavin & Stacey); Claire Skinner (Outnumbered); David Warner (Wallander) and Jack Whitehall (Bad Education).
Joining them are Jane Horrocks (Trollied); Jim Howick (Horrible Histories); Julie Hesmondhalgh (Cucumber); Mark Benton (Waterloo Road); Michele Dotrice (Big School); Paul Kaye (Game of Thrones); Sheridan Smith (Cilla) and Tom Riley (Da Vinci’s Demons).
The new season’s six individual stories will each feature completely new characters and be set in a different location, including a sleeper car on a French train, a séance in a grand Victorian villa, a 17th century village and a volunteer call centre.
Pemberton and Shearsmith will also make their joint directorial debut on two of the new episodes.
The pair commented: “We are delighted to be handing over the keys to six new No. 9‘s, we hope they will amuse, shock, horrify and surprise… but not necessarily in that order. Once again we have enjoyed working with some of the best comic talent in the country. Now we are getting old, it’s nice not to have to play all the parts.”
Season 1’s guest cast included Gemma Arterton, Katherine Parkinson, Anna Chancellor, Anne Reid, Tamsin Grieg, Julian Rhind-Tutt, Marc Wootton and Sophie Thompson.
