Iron Fist cancelled after two seasons

Marvel and Netflix have opted to cancel Iron Fist, bringing the superhero series to an end rather than ordering a third season. The show, which saw Finn Jones’ Danny Rand mixing ninja skills with business meetings, is the first Marvel/Netflix collaboration to be definitively ended.

Trade publication Deadline Hollywood shared this joint statement from Marvel and Netflix:

“Marvel’s Iron Fist will not return for a third season on Netflix. Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is proud of the series and grateful for all of the hard work from our incredible cast, crew and showrunners. We’re thankful to the fans who have watched these two seasons, and for the partnership we’ve shared on this series. While the series on Netflix has ended, the immortal Iron Fist will live on.”

It’s interesting that the statement says Iron Fist will “live on” despite this cancellation. Could we see Finn Jones’ Danny Rand and Jessica Henwick’s Colleen Wing move over to another series, such as Luke Cage? Or could they move to another platform, like the Disney streaming service that will launch next year?

It’s hard to tell, at the moment, what this living on will look like. All we know for sure is that there will be no Iron Fist season 3 on Netflix. This is a shame, particularly for those who felt season 2 was a major step in the right direction.

If more Iron Fist news comes to light, we’ll be sure to let you know.
