ITV is bringing the Hatton Garden diamond heist to the small screen, with BAFTA-winning screenwriter Jeff Pope leading the charge. Here’s everything you need to know…
For one thing, ITV has confirmed the show’s premiere date.
“Confirmed,” the ITV Press Centre declared on Twitter. “New four-part drama Hatton Garden starts Monday 20th May at 9pm on ITV – and continues over the following three nights.”
Consisting of four hour-long episodes, the drama will explore how the heist was pulled off and who the men were that had the audacity to attempt it.
A sizeable cast has been assembled to fill out these roles, including Timothy Spall, Kenneth Cranham, Brian F. O’Bryne, Alex Norton, David Hayman, Geoff Bell, Ian Puleston-Davies and Nasser Memarzia.
Writer Jeff Pope previously wrote the screenplay for Stan And Ollie, the Laurel and Hardy biopic that charmed numerous award-giving bodies earlier this year. He also wrote Philomena and See No Evil: The Moors Murders, both of which won BAFTAs.
Hatton Garden was co-written by Terry Winsor (Hot Money, Danielle Cable: Eyewitness, Essex Boys), with the director’s chair occupied by Paul Whittington (Little Boy Blue, The Moorside, Cilla, Mrs Biggs).
This isn’t the first attempt to tell a dramatised account of the heist, and it probably won’t be the last either, but it’ll be interesting to see if the drama becomes a smash-hit regardless.
That date to circle in your diary again is Monday 20th May.
