Sky1’s Jamestown will return next month with brand new episodes.
The gritty period drama’s second series is set to land on Sky1 on Friday 9 February, exploring a new chapter in the lives of a group of English settlers in 1600s America. At the start of the previous series, the colony were forced to adjust to the arrival of the first shipload of women.
As pointed out by the guys at Geektown, Jamestown was an unprecedented hit in 2017, pulling in an impressive 1.6 million viewers over its eight episodes. Created by Bill Gallagher, it was heavily billed before its initial air date as the ‘next project from the makers of Downton Abbey‘.
To top it off, the second series was ordered by Sky before the first even began airing, with Anne Mensah, head of drama, saying at the time: “The first series of Jamestown is unique, beautifully shot and packed with compelling storylines full of adventure and emotion.
“It demonstrates Sky’s commitment to make the highest quality drama and has left us all wanting more. With [creator] Bill Gallagher drawing from the real events in this rich period of history for the next instalment of the series, it’s a fascinating story that we are thrilled to continue telling, especially that of the extraordinary women at the heart of the show, Alice, Verity and Jocelyn.”
Gareth Neame, MD at Carnival Films, added: “I am delighted that Sky 1 has shown such confidence in the series and given us the opportunity to work with Bill and our extraordinary cast again. We are looking forward to continuing our journey in the New World with the people who made American History.”
Naomi Battrick, Max Beesley, Jason Flemyng, Burn Gorman, Dean Lennox Kelly, Stuart Martin, Sophie Rundle, Matt Stokoe, Steven Waddington and Niamh Walsh star.
