The eight-part series will also star Jodie Whittaker (Broadchurch), Rhashan Stone (Strike Back) and Gerard Kearns (Shameless).
Written by Lucy Kirkwood (Skins), The Smoke follows the “high-adrenaline adventures” of White Watch, a team of London firefighters.
The official synopsis teases: “Leading the crew is Kev (Bamber), a good man injured and betrayed during the worst fire of his career. Standing by Kev’s side as he returns to work is his gutsy girlfriend Trish (Whittaker) and his cocksure friend and fellow firefighter Mal (Stone). Other members of the crew include the hapless but charming Little Al (Kearns), the fearless Ziggy (Pippa Bennett-Warner) and the mysterious new boy Dennis (Taron Egerton).”
Sky describes The Smoke as “a high octane, emotionally gripping, funny and occasionally outrageous ensemble drama about what it’s really like to be a firefighter in Britain today”, promising that “you’ll never before have seen a show about firefighters quite like The Smoke.”
Directed by Mike Barker (Silent Witness) and produced by Chris Fry (Spooks), The Smoke will air on Sky1 early next year.
