The actor’s tenure on Supernatural is coming to an end…

90s TV series, Walker, Texas Ranger is being rebooted by CBS, and Supernatural star Jared Padalecki will lead the new show. The actor is to play the character of Cordell Walker, “a man finding his way back to his family while serving in Texas’ most elite law enforcement unit. A widowed father of two, Walker returns to his home in Austin after two years of undercover work on a high-profile case, only to discover there’s more work to be done at home.”

The original series starred Chuck Norris as the titular character, and ran for eight seasons. The reboot will just be called Walker, and will pair Padalecki up with a female partner in the Texas Rangers. Anna Fricke (Being Human) is on writing duties.

Padalecki has been working on The CW’s Supernatural for 15 years, featuring as monster hunter Sam Winchester in nearly every episode, and the series is finally set to end next year, freeing the actor up to “go home”, in a way – he’s from Texas originally!

Padalecki has yet to comment formally on his casting in Walker, but has simply posted the news on Twitter accompanied by a “fingers crossed” emoji.

More on Walker as we get it.
