The drama returns to E4 for an eight-part new series later this month, featuring the actor as new guy Rudy, following the departure of Sheehan as Nathan.

Gilgun explained: “Coming in to [the cast] I did [feel nervous], yeah. But I think if I didn’t, there’d be something wrong… it’s an established group of friends and work colleagues. And Robert, who played immortal Irish gobshite Nathan before me, did such a good job. So it was an awful lot of pressure. I just wanted to do well.”

Asked if he’d watched the show before joining, he said: “Yeah, I’d have been a moron to come in and not watch any of it. And I got completely addicted. I love the comic book genre. I love all of that stuff.”
