Following hot on the heels of the first Luther series 5 trailer, here’s another piece another piece of news pertaining to the crime drama’s return: it’s been announced that Hermione Norris will be joining the cast of Luther for its fifth run.
Norris – who has previously appeared in Spooks, Cold Feet and many more popular series – will play Dr Vivien Lake, who has been described by the BBC as “a well-respected psychiatrist who cares for some of the most vulnerable of society”.
Of course, only time will tell whether this character is actually as “well-respected” and trustworthy as these press release quotes suggest. We’re sure Norris could turn in a great villainous performance if the script asked for one.
As for how Norris’ Vivien will factor in the show, this info has been released by the BBC:
“When Luther is called to solve a spate of monstrous murders, Vivien’s unique perspective might be the link to help stop these horrendous killings.”
Another newcomer to the cast is Wunmi Mosaku (Vera, Kiri, The End Of The F***ing World) who will play the role of Catherine Halliday, Luther’s new partner. Idris Elba’s coat-loving investigator hasn’t had much luck at keeping his partners alive in the previous series, so it should be interesting to see what happens here.
Luther returns later this year, and we’ll let you know the release date as soon as we hear it.
