‘Luther’ writer teases ‘powerful and moving ending’

Idris Elba (Prometheus) will return as Detective Chief Investigator John Luther in a new four-part series later this year, co-produced by BBC America.

Speaking to BBC Radio 4’s Front Row, the show’s writer teased: “The final scene of the final episode is great and we wouldn’t want to continue. I love an ending. I have a weakness for a powerful and moving ending. We’ll go out big and leave it at that.”

However, Cross added that he is currently planning a movie version: “We’ll wrap up Luther as a TV show, but I think we’ll then probably make the leap to the big screen with John Luther.”

Series 3 will also see Warren Brown (Inside Men) return as Detective Sergeant Justin Ripley, alongside Dermot Crowley (Bleak House) as DSU Martin Schenk, Nikki Amuka-Bird (Survivors) as Detective Sergeant Erin Gray and Michael Smiley (Wire in the Blood) as Benny Silver.
