Meghan Markle is the first member of the Royal Family to ever be submitted for consideration at the Emmy Awards, but it wasn’t her starring role in the Royal Wedding that put her in contention.
It was Markle’s role in Suits season 7 that has put her in the Emmys discussion. Markle’s turn in her final season of Suits has been submitted for consideration in the Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Drama Series category, for the 70th Primetime Emmy Awards.
The Emmy Academy will now judge all of the submissions, before announcing the official shortlist of nominees on July 12th. The awards ceremony will then take place on September 17th, although word on the web seems to suggest that Markle’s chances of actually winning are looking quite slim.
It’s not unusual for The USA Network to submit the Suits cast for consideration, but none of them has ever taken home a gong. Alongside Markle, this year, the following Suits stars have also been submitted for Emmys consideration.
Sarah Rafferty has also been submitted for Supporting Actress, Patrick J. Adams and Gabriel Macht have been submitted for Outstanding Lead Actor, Rick Hoffman is up for Supporting Actor, and Gina Torres is up for Guest Actress.
And, in a funny twist of fate, Parisa Fitz-Henley – who played Markle in Harry & Meghan: A Royal Romance, the Lifetime movie about the Royal Wedding – has also been submitted for Emmy consideration. She’s in the mix for Outstanding Lead Actress In A Limited Series Or Movie.
We’ll bring you more Emmys news as we hear it.
