The news of Series 5’s commission was revealed by the cast at Comic-Con in San Diego over the weekend.

Executive producers Johnny Capps and Julian Murphy commented: “We are both delighted to have a fifth series commissioned and thrilled with the worldwide success of Merlin. We have some fantastic ideas in mind for the next stage of the journey and relish the chance to take the programme to the next level!”

Series 4 will air on BBC One this autumn and Merlin has now been to over 52 broadcasters in more than 183 countries around the world.

Last week the BBC aired a new ‘Original British Drama’ trailer, featuring clips from the upcoming series, including a glimpse of the Knights Of The Round Table.
