Colin Morgan has been cast in the new series of BBC Two’s The Fall.

The crime drama’s second series is currently filming in Belfast and will air on BBC Two later this year.

Colin will appear in the final three episodes of Series 2 as DS Tom Anderson, an officer involved in the hunt for serial killer Paul Spector (Jamie Dornan), who will work closely with Detective Superintendent Stella Gibson (Gillian Anderson).

The Merlin star commented: “I’m delighted to be joining the cast of The Fall for what is going to be an exciting and gripping second series. Allan Cubitt has written exceptional material and I feel very privileged to be working with him and the very talented cast.”

The official synopsis for Series 2 reads: “The story picks up immediately from where Series 1 left off, with Gibson in pursuit of Spector. A personal link from Spector’s past opens up some clues for Gibson but provokes Spector in way that threatens to jeopardise the whole investigation. Gibson is forced to take ever greater risks but the closer she comes to capturing him, the more Spector trespasses into her private world, delighting in taunting and provoking her. As the net gradually tightens around him he becomes psychologically ever more dangerous and destructive.”
