The actor, who played Merlin in BBC One’s fantasy drama, told The TV Addict: “I think everything people wanted to see is fulfilled. In the fifth season, I was very proud of how everything was handled. It is definitely the strongest it has been.”

In the same interview, his co-star Katie McGrath (Morgana) revealed her favourite memory from her time on the show: “My favourite memory of Merlin from filming was in the first season, actually. We were all playing hide-and-seek in the castle, at night time. For some reason, all four of us weren’t in a scene together and all decided to play hide-and-seek in the dark, in our full costumes. That was fun… It sort of sums up the five years and the laughs we had.”

The last ever episode of Merlin aired over Christmas on BBC One.
