A drama called Quiz, based on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire and the famous ‘coughing major’ scandal, will see Michael Sheen playing the role of Chris Tarrant. Here’s everything we know…
Based on the stage play of the same name, Quiz will be brought to us by writer James Graham, who previously served up Channel 4’s Brexit: An Uncivil War series. Graham also wrote the original play.
The show will be a three-part drama, and the American network AMC is serving as a co-producer with a viewing to airing the drama stateside.
As well as Sheen as Tarrant, the cast also includes Matthew Macfadyen as Major Charles Ingram, Sian Clifford as Diana Ingram, Mark Bonnar as Celador TV boss Paul Smith, Helen McCrory as Sonia Woodley, Michael Jibson as Tecwen Whittock, and Aisling Bea as ITV commissioner Claudia Rosencrantz.
“I was gripped by this story over 15 years ago, and I’m still gripped now,” says Graham in a statement. “It’s a very English heist. Putting it onto stage at Chichester and the West End was such a lot of fun, and with a new team we now get to re-imagine the whole story afresh for television. I have to pay credit to the late investigative journalist Bob Woffinden, who along with James Plaskett wrote the book Bad Show that kicked the whole creative process off by asking the question – what if the Major is innocent?”
