Based on Douglas Adams’ cult novel Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, a one-hour pilot episode was shown on the channel in December last year, pulling in a strong audience of 1.1m viewers.

Overman commented: “I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to write more episodes of Dirk and look forward to seeing where his unique detective methodology and perspective on life takes me.”

Last year’s episode starred Green Wing‘s Stephen Mangan as Dirk Gently, alongside Darren Boyd (Smack The Pony) and Helen Baxendale (Cold Feet). It has not been confirmed if all or any of the original cast will return for the 2012 series.
