Previous productions from Playground Entertainment include King Lear starring Anthony Hopkins, Little Women from Heidi Thomas, Howards End with Hayley Atwell, and the hugely popular Wolf Hall series. Newman’s work seems to be in safe hands, then.
Here’s the official synopsis for the Moriarty: The Hound of the D’Urbervilles book, to give you a taster of the tone…
“Imagine the twisted evil twins of Holmes and Watson and you have the dangerous duo of Prof. James Moriarty – wily, snake-like, fiercely intelligent, unpredictable – and Colonel Sebastian ‘Basher’ Moran – violent, politically incorrect, debauched. Together they run London crime, owning police and criminals alike. Unravelling mysteries — all for their own gain.
“A spin-off from Titan’s highly successful Further Adventures of Sherlock Holmes series, The Hound of the D’Urbervilles sees acclaimed novelist Kim Newman (Anno Dracula) take on the fiendish Professor Moriarty.”
Newman’s spin of Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic Sherlock Holmes story promises to be a fiendishly fresh TV series, taking what you think you know about The Hound Of The D’Urbervilles and turning it on its head.
We’ll bring you more news on the TV series as we hear it. It’s early days at this stage, but we’re looking forward to seeing how this one turns out.
