Starring Jeremy Piven (Entourage) in the title role, ITV’s new period drama from writer Andrew Davies (Pride and Prejudice) has been pulling in an average consolidated audience of 8.5 million, peaking at 9.4 million, beating BBC One’s period crime drama Ripper Street on Sunday nights.

All the main cast will return for ten new episodes next year and Series 2 will see the story reach 1914 and the onset of the first world war, Media Guardian reports.

The first series continues with Episode 6 at 9pm on Sunday night on ITV.
