The upcoming Disney+ streaming service will host a new Muppets series entitled Muppets Now. Here’s everything we know…
As Disney announced at the big D23 expo over the weekend, Muppets Now will launch on Disney+ next year.
The show will be a short-form unscripted series, meaning you can expect thirty-minute episodes and a focus on special guests and off-the-cuff conversations rather than big scripted stories.
That’s all we know about Muppets Now for the time being, and it will be interesting to see whether Disney announced any other projects within the beloved puppet universe that Jim Henson created.
Either way, it’s nice to see Disney trying to do something with the Muppets licence, after 2014’s Muppets Most Wanted movie failed to set the box office alight. This is the first new telly project for the Muppets since The Muppets on ABC, which was a short-lived mockumentary that came to an end in 2016.
With Disney+ sure to attract millions of paying customers with its Star Wars and Marvel offerings, it makes sense for Disney to use the platform to try and reignite interest in some of its other properties. The ones, like the Muppets, that could do with a little boost right about now.
We’ll keep you posted as we hear more…
