Only Fools And Horses is heading to the West End stage is a new musical guise, with the Theatre Royal Haymarket set to host the iconic Robin Reliant and a recast version of the Trotter family.
Paul Whitehouse co-wrote the show Jim Sullivan, the son of the TV show’s creator John Sullivan. The late John Sullivan had been developing the script for the stage show before his death in 2011.
Whitehouse will also star in the musical, in the role of Grandad, alongside Tom Bennett as Del Boy and Ryan Hutton as Rodney. The characters Boycie, Trigger, Marlene and Denzil are also expected to appear.
The show has been described as “very faithful” to the beloved sitcom’s original episodes, and it will blend classic scenes with “hilarious” new material and musical numbers. Jim Sullivan has also promised to “highlight contemporary issues” in the show.
“We’re very conscious of the Only Fools legacy and that it’s so fondly remembered by people of almost all ages,” Jim Sullivan has said. “So we’ve tried to incorporate everyone’s favourite moments from the TV shows and, of course, all the great characters.”
Whitehouse, meanwhile, said this to BBC News:
“The audience will come in with certain expectations, some of which we’ll dash and some which we’ll fulfil. We want people to have a good time and think, ‘I’ve just seen a distillation of the show with some of my favourite bits and songs I can almost join in with.'”
Only Fools And Horses: The Musical will open at the Theatre Royal Haymarket on February 9th 2019. Tickets are available to book now at the theatre’s website.
