Poldark has been renewed for its fifth season, but it might be the last one. This news comes ahead of Poldark series 4’s arrival on the BBC, which is expected this summer.
Demelza actress Eleanor Tomlinson broke the news at a BFI event, where some lucky fans got to see Polark series 4 episode 1 early. She wasn’t actually at the event because she’s off filming War Of The Worlds, so Tomlinson sent this video to announce the existence of Poldark series 5…
#Poldark fans, @ETomlinson has some exciting news from tonight’s screening of S4 episode 1. You don’t want to miss this announcement! pic.twitter.com/2IoyL4p8Cu

If you can’t watch that video right now, here’s a transcript of the most important bit…
“I can confirm that we are gonna make series 5 of Poldark. Yay! So exciting! So, thank you so much for all of your support. We wouldn’t be here, we wouldn’t have made this show what it’s become without you guys. So, thank you for that.”
Aidan Turner will return to the title role, of course, but he’s also warned that Poldark series 5 might mark the show’s end. Speaking to Digital Spy, Turner said this:
“You don’t want things to go on too long and just limp out the backdoor. So I think next year [the fifth series] might be the last one – certainly for a while. We may come back. Who knows?”
Winston Graham has written more Poldark books, though, some of which feature a much older Poldark and a hefty time jump. On the topic of returning to the show when the time is right, Turner added this:
“The jump is huge, but I’m not putting grey in my hair or anything like that. I’ll come back in 10 years and revisit it the right way.”
We’ll bring you more Poldark news when we hear it.
