Despite generating a healthy viewership for the channel, Prime Suspect 1973 will not return to ITV for a second run, it has been confirmed.
The show, which served as a prequel to the Helen Mirren-starring series, featured Stefani Martini as a younger version of the central character, with a story adapted from Lynda La Plante’s novel Tennison.
“We are grateful to Lynda La Plante for allowing us to adapt her brilliant book Tennison, and we were happy with how Prime Suspect 1973 performed and the audience reaction to the series,” an ITV spokesperson told Digital Spy. “However, not every series can be recommissioned.”
Sam Reid, Blake Harrison, Alun Armstrong and Ruth Sheen also starred.
