It has been confirmed that Red Dwarf XIII is pressing ahead. UKTV’s Dave channel has ordered the thirteenth series of Red Dwarf, and Baby Cow Productions will shoot it in the early stages of 2019.
Co-creator Doug Naylor will once again write all the episodes, and the core cast of Robert Llewellyn’s Kryten, Danny John-Jules’ Cat, Craig Charles’ Lister and Chris Barrie’s Rimmer will all return for this new set of adventures. We’d expect, as usual, the series to consist of six 30-minute episodes.
Llewellyn and John-Jules let slip the news about Red Dwarf series 13’s impending shoot while talking at a new fan convention called Thames Con. The British Comedy Guide was there to hear the reveal that Red Dwarf XIII will shoot next year, and so the news quickly arrived on the web after the event.
It remains unclear exactly when series 13 will arrive on our screens, although late 2019 seems like a decent bet. It also remains to be seen whether Baby Cow Productions will seize the opportunity of having the whole cast together to shoot two series back to back and line up a stack of twelve episodes. That’s what they did last time, and it seemed to work pretty well for Red Dwarf XI and Red Dwarf XII.
As we hear more about Red Dwarf XIII, we’ll let you know.
