Starring Suranne Jones and Lesley Sharp, the police drama returns to ITV1 at 9pm on Monday 12th March with eight new episodes.
Wainwright teases: “Everybody feels that bit more confident about what they’re doing. You just hope that people will enjoy it the second time as much as they did the first.”
Currently working on Antony and Cleopatra, a romantic comedy for BBC One, she adds: “The ambition for this series was to tell some really cracking stories again and make it a bit bigger. We’ve kicked off with a two-parter, which I think is probably one of the darkest stories we’ve ever told.”
Wainwright continues: “I think this series has got quite a lot darker, which I hope is balanced out by the comedy. My mother often reads the scripts – I send them to her because she’s always interested in what I’m doing – and worries about me writing this. I don’t know if it affects me in a way I’m not aware of. But I try to make it as funny as it is dark.”
Exploring the personal and professional lives of Detective Constable Rachel Bailey (Jones) and Detective Constable Janet Scott (Sharp), Series 1 launched in May last year.
