Sean Bean will star in new drama The Oath on Crackle, set to premiere on the online channel in 2018 with a 10-episode season.
The show will be a gritty drama exploring an exclusive group who have sworn to expose corruption in society, reports The Hollywood Reporter. Throughout the series members will have to fight threats from both inside and outside their ranks.
Bean will lead the cast as Tom Hammond, a cop who heads up one of the gangs dedicated to enforcing the law. Early on, Hammond is released from jail and must try to regain his old position.
“It’s great to be working with director Jeff Thomas again and the story’s creator, Joe Haplin for Crackle,” Bean said. “I’m really looking forward to exploring this fascinating story.”
Eric Berger, general manager at Crackle and executive vice president of digital at Sony Pictures Television Networks, added: “Sean Bean is the perfect choice for the role of Tom Hammond. He embodies the grit and intensity that drives this character throughout the series’ uncompromising and fast-paced narrative. We are excited to have him anchor this incredible production from Joe Halpin and 50 Cent’s G-Unit division.”
Crackle is no stranger to British stars, having also produced Snatch starring Rupert Grint, Luke Pasqualino and Ed Westwick, and StartUp with Martin Freeman.
The Oath was created by Joe Halpin, who will be drawing on his experiences working in the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department for 17 years. He will also be the showrunner and executive produce alongside 50 Cent, Todd Hoffman and Dennis Kim.
