Sherlock Holmes 3: producer says it will get made, possibly next year

Sherlock Holmes 3 is happening, and it could shoot as soon as next year, one of the film’s producers has revealed. This would be the sequel to 2009’s Sherlock Holmes and 2011’s Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows, both of which featured Robert Downey Jnr as Sherlock and Jude Law as Doctor Watson.

Given that seven years have passed since we last saw this pair portraying Arthur Conan Doyle’s iconic investigators, you might have assumed that the franchise was finished. But producer Joel Silver, who has worked on both of the previous movie, has now said this to cast away your doubts:

Sherlock Holmes 3 is happening, that’s coming. That’ll probably get done maybe about a year from now we’ll shoot that, we’re excited.”

Last we heard, a writers room had been assembled for Sherlock Holmes 3 with some talented Hollywood names in it: Kieran Fitzgerald, Justin Malen, Drew Pearce, Nicole Perlman, Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Gary Whitta are all believed to be involved in putting together the story for Downey and Law’s next Sherlock Holmes movie.

While we wait for the film to come together, both Downey and Law can be seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Law has a role in next year’s Captain Marvel film, and Downey is in cinemas now for Avengers: Infinity War. As a fun twist of fate, alongside Downey in Infinity War, you’ll see another iconic Sherlock actor – Mr Benedict Cumberbatch. That should tide us over nicely.

More news as it happens.
