The 12-part series promises “a 21st century take on the classic 8th century hero” and begins on Sky1 on Sunday 8th July.

The regular cast includes newcomer Elliot Knight as Sinbad, alongside Lost’s Naveen Andrews as Sinbad’s nemesis, Lord Akbari, and Orla Brady (Fringe) as the evil Taryn.

Dougray Scott (Mission Impossible 2) will play the deeply deceptive Father La Stessa, who relishes his power over the people, manipulating and often killing them with his fire.

Mathew Horne (Gavin & Stacey) will play a character called Philippe, while Evanna Alehna will play Alehna, Taryn’s fourteen-year-old daughter whom she believed was dead.

Lynch comments: “I would say there is more to Alehna than meets the eye. Her seeming innocence and youth, and her quiet, reticent manner cause people to underestimate her wisdom, knowledge and intuition.”
