Sky1 and Cinemax have announced the return of Strike Back.
Originally based on the novel of the same name by novelist and former Special Air Service (SAS) soldier Chris Ryan, the British/American action drama series launched in May 2010 and the fifth season concluded in July 2015.
A brand new season of Strike Back will begin filming in 2017, created by the original award-winning team.
The reboot will see “the section programme revived and thrown head-first into today’s modern world of political polarisation, disenchantment, violent power struggles and fear.”
The all-new cast will be led by Warren Brown (Luther) as Sergeant Daniel ‘Mac’ McAllister, Daniel MacPherson (The Shannara Chronicles) as Sergeant Samuel Wyatt, Roxanne McKee (Game of Thrones) as Natalie Roberts and Alin Sumarwata (Neighbours) as Gracie Novin.
Former stars Sullivan Stapleton and Philip Winchester will not be returning due to their commitments on Blindspot and Chicago Justice respectively.
Adam MacDonald, Director of Sky 1, commented: “We’re thrilled to be working with Cinemax again to deliver more edge-of-your-seat action adventure and this latest series of Strike Back is another welcome addition to Sky 1’s ever-growing collection of high quality, home-grown dramas. At such an interesting time in global politics, this series delivers a compelling take on world events and the murky world of international espionage”.
Executive producer Andy Harries added: “Strike Back is the show that took Left Bank Pictures onto the international stage and we are thrilled to be back with such an exciting cast and a world class team of writers, directors and producers. With a fanbase spread over 150 countries worldwide, Strike Back is television at its very best, where the military comes first! Our news stars have amazing physical skills which, combined with their military training is going to make the show rock.”
The official synopsis for Season 6 reads: “Disavowed and disbanded, the Section programme is restored in order to track down a notorious terrorist following a brutal prison break. Tasked with covert military intelligence and high-risk operations, the resurrected unit embarks on a lethal manhunt that will uncover a vast web of interconnected criminal activity. As the team journey across the Middle East and Europe, they uncover a deadly conspiracy which threatens to overwhelm them all and change the face of modern warfare forever…”
