The original cast of The Crown was “begging” to find out which actors are replacing them in series 3, fresh quotes from the cast have revealed. As we’ve known since the start, the entire core cast of the show will be replaced with older actors for The Crown series 3, as the show is planning a time jump to Queen Elizabeth II and Philip’s middle-aged years.
Claire Foy, who will be replaced in the role of Elizabeth by Olivia Colman for The Crown season 3, said this at an event hosted by Variety:
“They’re so secretive, you know? We were like begging to find out, and they were like, ‘No, we will tell you when the time is right.’ We were constantly trying to find out.”
Vanessa Kirby, who will be replaced in the role of Princess Margaret by Helena Bonham Carter, added this with a laugh:
“I don’t think [the producers] trusted me not to tell anyone, actually.”
We also know that Matt Smith will be replaced in the role of Prince Phillip by Tobias Menzies. It’s an all-star cast replacing another all-star cast, by the looks of things, and it should be fun to see how the characters change with the new actors playing them.
We’ll let you know as we hear more about The Crown season 3.
