Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson and Salma Hayek are believed to be teaming up once again for The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard. This would be a sequel to The Hitman’s Bodyguard, which starred all three of those talented actors and made a fair bit of profit at the global box office last year.
The first movie saw Reynolds playing a disgraced bodyguard, who was assigned a career-saving case: to transport a notorious hitman (Jackson) to testify against a dictator in a trial at The Hague. Jackson’s character had an ulterior motive for testifying, though: to secure the release of his wife (Hayek) from prison.
The sequel’s title, The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, makes it sound like Hayek’s character will play a larger role in the sequel, having been stuck in loving flashbacks and prison cell phonecall scenes for much of her screentime in the previous movie.
Little is known about The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard in terms of plot or release date, but we do know that the production company Millennium Films is touting the project at the Cannes Film Festival this month. Apparently, they are using this tagline to promote the film: “The Good. The Bad. And the Batshit cray.”
Although an official announcement is yet to be made to the press, one assumes that Reynolds, Jackson and Hayek will all need to return in order to make a film with this title happen. The first film’s screenwriter, Tom O’Connor, will be involved with the sequel too. And director Patrick Hughes is thought to be returning, as well.
We’ll keep you updated as we hear more.
