Gina Carano, who’s best known among film fans for her turn as Angel Dust in 2016’s Deadpool movie, has signed up for a part in Disney’s upcoming live-action Star Wars TV series, The Mandalorian.
Carano, who rose to fame as an MMA fighter before pivoting into cinema with roles in Haywire, Fast & Furious 6, Deadpool and Kickboxer: Vengeance, was confirmed among The Mandalorian‘s cast byThe Hollywood Reporter.
THR noted, “Character details are buried deep in the desert wastes of Tatooine”, before re-sharing this official synopsis:
“After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.”
We already know that Game Of Thrones and Narcos alum Pedro Pascal is set to play this eponymous Mandalorian, the “lone gunfighter” that gives the show its name. It’ll be interesting to see where Carano’s character fits into proceedings, as she could definitely give Pascal a run for his money in a fair fight.
Iron Man and The Jungle Book director Jon Favreau is helming the series as its chief writer, with Dave Filoni, Taika Waititi, Bryce Dallas Howard, Rick Famuyiwa and Deborah Chow all set to direct episodes. The show will air exclusively on Disney+, the new streaming service the Mouse House is launching next year.
