It has been confirmed that The Smoke won’t be returning for a second series.

The firefighting drama launched earlier this year on Sky1 and the first series concluded in March.

Sky announced: “We’re very proud of The Smoke, which played a key part in Sky1’s plans to develop big scale dramas; something we will continue to do with our audience in mind.”

They explained: “Unfortunately, sometimes tough decisions need to be made as to which dramas return and The Smoke will not be returning for a second series. We would like to thank the entire creative team and cast, and everyone at Kudos.”

Speaking exclusively to CultBox, star Jodie Whittaker revealed that she’d be “delighted” if the show was recommissioned: “I’d absolutely 100% be back…”

From the creators of Spooks and Broadchurch, The Smoke starred Jamie Bamber (Battlestar Gallactica) as a seasoned fire-fighter and the leader of the crew at White Watch.
