ITV has commissioned a new comedy series, entitled The Stand Up Sketch Show, for broadcast in 2019. High profile comics have signed up to share their stories and take part in fun sketches.
Seann Walsh, Joel Dommett, Russell Kane, London Hughes and Suzi Ruffell are the first five names to be announced for The Stand Up Sketch Show. More familiar faces, along with some exciting newcomers, are expected to sign up in the near future.
The format of the show will see comedians telling their stores in a stand-up fashion, before changing tack to reenact the experience as a comedy sketch. Each episode will feature between eight and ten brand new sketches, which sounds like a lot of fun to us.
Matt Campion, who is directing and executive producing the series, released this statement:
“I’m thrilled to be working with so many of the UK’s top comedy talent to bring their funniest stand up routines to life via the art form of sketch. It’s really exciting to be producing such a new style of comedy format in the genre.”
ITV’s Comedy Controller, Saskia Schuster, said this:
“The Stand Up Sketch Show will offer comedy lovers a unique visual take on comedian’s stand up routines. We’ve got a great cast lined up that includes some of the biggest names in comedy, including some of the best up and coming rising talent currently on the circuit.”
Jenny Joyce is producing the series for Spirit Media and ITV2, with a six-episode debut run expected to air next year. We’ll keep you posted as we hear more.
