Armando Iannucci has said that BBC Two’s satirical comedy series The Thick of It won’t return because the current world of politics is too “alien and awful”.
Starring Doctor Who’s Peter Capaldi as Malcolm Tucker, The Thick of It launched in May 2005 and ran for four seasons and two specials. The final episode aired in October 2012 and a film spin-off, In the Loop, was released in 2009.

Writing in a column for the New Statesman, Iannucci revealed that fans often suggest that the show should return.
However, the Scottish writer was quick to confirm that a return is not on the cards.
He wrote: “Absolutely not. I now find the political landscape so alien and awful that it’s hard to match the waves of cynicism it transmits on its own. Fiction is winning out because fact is no longer making sense.”
