AMC has announced that a third series in The Walking Dead universe will premiere in 2020. This one will have two female protagonists and a younger vibe overall. Here’s everything you need to know…
Following in the footsteps of The Walking Dead and Fear The Walking Dead, this new series will take place in the same zombie apocalypse as AMC’s other shows in the franchise, albeit it with a brand new cast to focus on.
AMC announced the new series through Entertainment Weekly, offering this summary of the project: the new show “will feature two young female protagonists and focus on the first generation to come-of-age in the apocalypse as we know it. Some will become heroes. Some will become villains. In the end, all of them will be changed forever. Grown-up and cemented in their identities, both good and bad.”
The Walking Dead regulars Scott M. Gimple and Matt Negrete created this new show, which hasn’t been officially titled yet. Negrete will serve as showrunner, overseeing the production of ten episodes this summer.
“Showing audiences an unseen pocket of The Walking Dead universe steeped in a new mythology is a very cool way to celebrate a ‘Decade of the Dead’ on TV and over 15 years of Robert Kirkman’s brilliant comic,” Scott Gimple is quoted as saying. “Matt Negrete is one of the best writer-producers in TWD’s long history — I’m thrilled to be working beside him to tell stories unlike we’ve seen before, taking our first step into an even larger world.”
The show will premiere next year, and we’ll keep you posted as we hear more.
