It’s almost here – Crystal Maze is making its grand comeback with host Richard Ayoade this Friday, and Channel 4 has released a new trailer for the celebrity special.
As with most celeb-filled game show episodes, this is all for a good cause and is in honour of Stand Up to Cancer. It will feature Louie Spence, Lydia Bright, Ore Oduba, Vicky Pattison and Alex Brooker (The Last Leg). The number of names you recognise there will say a lot about your level of reality television consumption.
The trailer gives us a glimpse of what we might expect from the reboot, which has been highly anticipated by a generation who grew up on the Richard O’Brien-fronted episodes back in the 90s.
“Welcome to the Crystal Maze,” Ayoade says. “Inside lies a labyrinth of games where the highly skilled are awarded with crystals for time itself. In short, it’s nothing like real life, which frankly is a relief.”
As the trailer says, more celebrity specials will follow this one, but will then be followed by standard civilian episodes.
We’re with Richard – this looks like a top-notch distraction from all of our real lives. Watch the video below.
