After rumours of a new run for Who Wants to Be a Millionaire – probably on Channel 5, maybe presented by Jeremy Clarkson – here’s new, hard evidence that the show is really on the rebound: applications are now open.
Should you wish to be a contestant on the show, and therefore a potential millionaire, the closing date is 23:59 on 8 April, with auditions for would-be friend-phoners and audience-askers already underway and continuing until 20 April.
Lest you forget, Millionaire was co-created by Steve Knight, the writer-director of brilliant Tom Hardy telephone movie Locke and the opium-tinged period mayhem of Peaky Blinders. He has quite the brilliant mind.
When Who Wants to Be a Millionaire will end up back on our screens is anybody’s guess but it’s seeming like summer is the most likely if auditions are wrapping up in the spring.
