Coming to Channel 4 and US channel AMC in 2017 is Loaded, an English-language version of hit Israeli series Mesudarim.
The the award-wining original series won four Israeli Academy Awards in 2007.
Loaded follows four tech entrepreneurs and childhood friends who become multi-millionaires overnight and is executive produced by Jon Brown (Veep, Fresh Meat).
Leading the cast of the eight-part series are Samuel Anderson (Doctor Who), Jim Howick (The Aliens), Jonny Sweet (Him & Her), Nick Helm (Uncle) and Mary McCormack (The West Wing).
Let’s take a closer look at their characters…
Jim Howick plays the cautious Josh, who’s described as “fretful and essentially decent” and “the moral compass of the group.”
He’s not the most confident, however, and usually makes choices based on his worries and anxieties. His main focus is on getting back with his ex-girlfriend Abi – only trouble is, she has something of a hate/hate relationships with his mate Leon, played by Samuel Anderson.
The “deeply charismatic” Leon is in charge of securing investment and is the Business Development Director of the guys’ home based business, Idyl Hands. Described as “massively confident, bordering on cocky,” some of this is just a front to hide his insecurities and sense of pride.
Jonny Sweet takes the role of Ewan, Director of the Coding Team, an “innate introvert” and a “delicate soul” with a “slightly awkward personality”, Ewan’s in charge of the web hosting and technical side at Idyl Hands.
Nick Helm rounds out the crew as the eccentric, talented artist Watto – now sober after struggling with drug and alcohol use for several years. He’s “a flighty character with few roots to keep him grounded” and the guys get the impression that he’s just replaced one compulsive habit with another and he enjoys the large amounts of cash now available to him.
Mary McCormack rounds out the cast as “ruthless, immaculate and forthright” business exec Casey, who’s Vice President for Acquisitions at the parent company that has bought Idyl Hands. She might seem emotionally distant and super tough on the outside, but we’re told that she does have a more vulnerable side too.
Joel Stillerman, president of programming, AMC and SundanceTV teased last year: “A smart and somewhat lighthearted look at all of the things that can go wrong when you’re suddenly very, very rich; and very, very young felt like a perfect show for our times.”
Loaded begins on Channel 4 and AMC later this year.
