David Schwimmer, who made himself a household name by playing Ross Gellar in 10 seasons of NBC’s smash-hit sitcom Friends, is returning to the televised comedy scene with a major role in Will & Grace season 10.
Deadline reports that Schwimmer will play a new love interest for Debra Messing’s Grace, across five episodes, in the second post-revival season of the classic NBC sitcom.
The scripts are still being written for this segment of Will & Grace season 10, so we don’t know a great deal about Schwimmer’s part as of yet. It’ll be interesting to see – when these episodes come to air – whether the writers can resist slyly sliding in a few allusions to his iconic work on Friends.
Schwimmer previously poked fun at his Friends days with a cameo role in Matt LeBlanc’s Episodes, where he played a fictionalised version of himself who got paid more than the Joey actor to show up at a fancy event.
Schwimmer has also done serious work in recent years, notably winning an Emmy for his striking turn as Robert Kardashian in The People Vs. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story.
Will & Grace season 10 will debut in the USA on October 4th. The UK date isn’t announced yet, but we’ll let you know when it is.
Given that Schwimmer is in five episodes and the season will run for at 18, perhaps we should assume that his character and Grace won’t be a long-term thing. Or maybe they’ll end up going ON A BREAK!
