Zack Snyder is working with Jay Oliva and Netflix to create an anime series that is set in the world Norse mythology. Here’s everything you need to know…
Snyder – whose CV includes 300, Watchmen, Sucker Punch, Man Of Steel, Batman V Superman, Justice League and the upcoming Netflix movie Army Of The Dead – will co-create the series and serve as an executive producer.
Oliva – whose CV includes the animated projects Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox and the upcoming Netflix series Trese – co-created the series and will serve as showrunner, director and executive producer.
Netflix’s John Derderian said this: “Zack Snyder’s innovation in visual storytelling has pushed the industry forward and established him as one of the most distinctive filmmakers of his generation. We are beyond excited to partner with him and his exceptional team to bring the iconic characters and stories of Norse mythology to life in his inimitable style.”
Snyder is no stranger to heightened realities, godly characters and dense mythologies, so it will be interesting to see what he and Oliva cook up with the iconic Norse stories and characters. Of course, over at Disney, certain aspects of Norse mythology have been brought into mainstream pop culture in recent years by the Thor movies. Here’s hoping this Netflix series has something original to say.
