More names have been officially announced for The Crown season three, with Helena Bonham Carter and Jason Watkins joining the cast.
Helena Bonham Carter will take over the role of Princess Margaret from Vanessa Kirby, while Jason Watkins will step into the part of Prime Minister Harold Wilson, who occupied Number 10 from 1964 to 1970, and then again from 1974 to 1976.
Bonham Carter said: “I’m not sure which I’m more terrified about – doing justice to the real Princess Margaret or following in the shoes of Vanessa Kirby’s Princess Margaret. The only thing I can guarantee is that I’ll be shorter [than Vanessa].”
“I am delighted to become part of this excellent show,” Watkins added. “And so thrilled to be working once again with Peter Morgan. Harold Wilson is a significant and fascinating character in our history. So looking forward to bringing him to life, through a decade that transformed us culturally and politically. And excited to be working so closely with Olivia; and the whole team.”
The Queen herself will be portrayed by Olivia Colman in season three, after Claire Foy occupied the role for the first two. Tobias Menzies will replace Matt Smith as Prince Phillip.
The series will return to Netflix in 2019.
